SHOT Show 2017
« on: January 17, 2017, 04:17:55 PM »
Anyone going?  I'm planning to attend 2018 once I have my FFL.  I have a number of friends going, though.  Are you guys looking for anything in particular?  Anything that you've heard that is interesting?

The new Hudson pistol is really the only thing interesting this year.  I wouldn't bother going even if I was still in the industry.
    Maybe next year.

It seems that the industry was predicting an HRC white house, and so rather than developing innovative products, was focusing on tooling up production on what they already made.  Most everyone (myself included) was assuming that 'who has mags?' would be the biggest question of the show.

I saw SilencerCo has their integrally-suppressed Maxim-9 pistol ready for production. Ian and Karl from Forgotten Weapons and InRange TV were geeking out over one at Media Day.

I'll be honest: suppressors haven't appealed to me all that much before (except for wanting one on an AR-15 SBR because Lorenzo in Dead Six), and nothing from the last few SHOT Shows has excited me all that much, but I find myself really, really, *REALLY* wanting a Maxim-9. Even if the KeyMod section on the bottom of the "barrel" is kinda dumb.

I wouldn't mind having one at some point. But we have a few suppressors, so paying for a tax stamp on a gun with a suppressor that only can be used with that specific gun doesn't appeal to me as much as it did when they first came out with the idea. Maybe somewhere down the road, but I like being able to switch hosts whenever I want. Plus I don't see myself carrying the Maxim around as a carry gun since it's pretty big.

The Hudson H9 looks cool. I was thinking about getting one to test out, then I saw the MSRP was $1,147. Owie. That seems steep for a design that isn't proven.

I would still like to shoot one, but I don't see myself buying it.

I received an email from Guns America touting the new Colt revolver, but it also had a link for a 9mm pistol caliber carbine that comes in 2 versions. Glock mags, or STI 2011 mags. It's just begging to be sbr'd.

I have not heard of Trojan Firearms until now. Does anyone have any knowledge of them?

Looks cool enough. One might consider it a lame throw back, but I wish someone made a Sten that was modern. Like your webpage said, there aren't many pccs out there and I feel a Sten would compete well.

I think he's talking about the Lithgow Arms F90, which is the civilianized version of the Austrailia's new "upgraded" Steyr AUG /Austeyer F88.

Why the hell do the Brits, Aussies, French, and other assorted Europeans across the pond love bull pup style rifles?

For the same reason I cannot understand why they've never caught on over here, I can't understand why they are loved over there.

I've played with enough BP type rifles to be kinda jaded to them as a whole.  I can't just say "I love bullpups".  I do love the concept.  However the execution that some of the makers end up with leave much to be desired.

I've been trying to find out more info on the Leupold LTO Tracker Thermal monocular.  Seems like a nice option compared to the Flir and a lot less expensive.

Each year I keep hoping the tech for thermal will come down even further in price to where I could buy one. But since I've got no real use for it other than a toy of sorts it would have to come down quite a bit before I could justify my limited gun funds going towards one;) That said it's going in the right direction at least;)

Troy's expanding its line of Retro ARs. Part of me wishes that I'd spent the money I'd used building my AR on one of their GAU-5A's instead.

And I'm kind of digging the new upgrades DSA is bringing out for the FAL, especially the new Para stock. Nothing groundbreaking, I'll readily admit it, but I'm a FALophile so I'm excited anyway.

So what's the worst stuff people have seen?   I follow a few vendors and various other people that attended on Facebook so I saw a lot of photos.

The worst is probably the stupid wrist holster that George shared.   Other bad ones include the engraved anniversary edition Taurus Judge, and some sort of weird break open pepperbox style "self defense" pistol.
