Had some old jacka&& a couple of years back ask me, " Hot enough for ya' son? He he. "   :scrutiny  I said, " Yes sir.  It was hot enough for me in January.  What I really like, though, is when it gets hot enough that all you old fluffers stay in the house and I don't have to answer stupid questions.".   I put the gas nozzle back in it's cradle on the gas pump, got in the mail truck and drove away without another word being spoken.   :cool

One of my pet peeves way back when I was still young enough to be called it was to be called "son" by some fat old smug condescending fluff. My response was "I got a daddy and you ain't it, so fluff your 'son' talk."

I was a scrapper before I mellowed out. I'm still surprised I passed the police psych test and shrink interview.
North CarolinaBe without fear in the face of thine enemies.
Be brave and upright that God may love thee.
Speak the truth always even if it leads to thy death.
Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong.
That is thine oath.

Since I didn't have to shave more than two or three times a week until I was nearly 30, some old guy calling me "Son" didn't ever bother me.  (Seriously.  During my Southeast Asian Vacation, I was the junior member of my team, by about 5 years.  I tried to grow a mustache so I'd look older.  It just looked like my upper lip was dirty.)

But there are only 6 people left in the world who have earned the right to call me "Kid."  And if someone isn't in that group, that's really not a can of worms they want to open. >:( >:( >:(

Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.
Capacity wasn't really an issue then... and honestly really it's not even an issue now.

I think the 'son' bit is a southern thing.  I rarely hear it around here, and it is usually me saying it to those older than me.

    ?

Why would you say it? Typically those in our age group don't say that. Unless you were being snarky  :cool.

Condescending sarcasm to those older than me, who fail to show themselves better than me.  In short, those who need talked down to.

I rather like that line, and I hope you have no objection to me using a slightly modified version of it.
It was 120F here yesterday, and has been around that all week and will be getting hotter next month, and we have the same wits who say similar things as well as the loathed, "It's not the heat, it's the humidity", a comment that I think warrants summary execution with a blunt object.
    Help yourself.  Enjoy!    :cool

I would gladly give you half my beard growth. If I could.

It is much easier to NOT shave than need to shave more than once a day if you do not want to look like Scruffy McHobo.

I actually tried to grow a beard once.  It looked like a discouraged lawn, or a$$-hair on a sick dog.  Did finally get something that vaguely resembles a mustache, though.  Of course, since I'm nearly 62, it's mostly gray. :facepalm

And what little you do grow at this age is just... patchy... It's horrible  :facepalm.
