Had some old jacka&& a couple of years back ask me, " Hot enough for ya' son? He he. "     I said, " Yes sir.  It was hot enough for me in January.  What I really like, though, is when it gets hot enough that all you old fluffers stay in the house and I don't have to answer stupid questions.".   I put the gas nozzle back in it's cradle on the gas pump, got in the mail truck and drove away without another word being spoken.   

Since I didn't have to shave more than two or three times a week until I was nearly 30, some old guy calling me "Son" didn't ever bother me.  (Seriously.  During my Southeast Asian Vacation, I was the junior member of my team, by about 5 years.  I tried to grow a mustache so I'd look older.  It just looked like my upper lip was dirty.)

But there are only 6 people left in the world who have earned the right to call me "Kid."  And if someone isn't in that group, that's really not a can of worms they want to open.

I think the 'son' bit is a southern thing.  I rarely hear it around here, and it is usually me saying it to those older than me.

I'm glad I'm not the only one almost 30 who can't grow anything. The numbers I hear most are 12 and 16  .
