Practicing In Inclement Weather.

If you do, what products/lubes/oils do you use during/after to keep the elements destructive abilities at bay?
Texas
Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.
Capacity wasn't really an issue then... and honestly really it's not even an issue now.

    molyplate for the inside.

    Lubriplate for the outside.

I've heard great things about brownells rust preventative.

When range is scheduled, we go to the range.  weather is just something else to deal with. Our guys are expected to work in it, so we shoot in it, no matter what it is.
cleaning and lube are the same, we don't use "something special" for inclement weather.  since our stuff is outside in all weather, all year,  slipstream and Rem oil. same ole same ole.

I don't typically shoot on purpose in weather, but I do hunt in weather or rather did haven't hunted much in recent years as I've just been too busy. Though that said less rain than snow for my area, but I tend to just wipe things down afterwards, or blow them off with compressed air. Then I wipe down with oil, kind of oil doesn't matter much to me typically so I'll usually use something cheap. If it was really wet then I'll take it down and slipstream the whole thing and use that on the outside. If I'm looking for more protection or I notice a gun is in particular prone to rust I'll use some Renaissance wax on there and that seems to help.

I should also note since I see allot of carry guns, your sweat will vary person to person. Some are much much harder on firearms finishes especially bluing in summer. Way more of an issue for most guys than shooting in the weather is their own sweat on their gun from carry. If you're one of the people this effects you're going to have to be much more careful with your routine or finishes on your guns. Wipe them down at the end of each day, never leave them in the holster, and likely oil or wax daily after carry. For normal circumstances and people that isn't necessary or even remotely required. But I've met some guys over the years that can rust a gun looking at it.

The PD buys the Slip2000 but its good stuff in its own right. I also like Rem Oil as its a light oil for in between cleanings and especially good on my knife pivot pins. That said, I also use Mobile1 as its cheap (a quart for a few bucks and that'll last forevar) and I figure if its good inside a million rpm truck engine, it'll handle my AR's cyclic rate just fine. Its not a rust preventative but the way I maintain my weapons, rust doesn't get a foothold to begin with. All together I'm not a lube snob. As long as its slick and doesn't gum up with age or use, I'll use it.

I'm not too picky when it comes to oil lately it been lucas gun oil or m-pro7 for the exterior and non critical points and slipstream on contact points and m-pro7 cleaner for the obvious
IllinoisThere’s a story about a turtle and a scorpion. Scorpion is stranded on a river bank. Turtle sees this and asks Scorpion to get on his back and he’ll take him across the river. Scorpion gets on Turtle’s back and they go into the river. When they’re about halfway across, Scorpion stings Turtle. As Turtle is sinking, knowing they’re both going to die, he asks Scorpion "Why did you sting me, we’re both going to die?" and Scorpion says "It’s not my fault; it’s what I am."

I used Tuff Glide for years before I found SLIPSTREAM STYXX .  Both are good at preventing surface corrosion but the SLIPSTREAM seems to have the edge as a lubricant.

We've got some m-pro7 around here too and it works good too. In fact I really like it. I'm not too concerned about the chemical composition, blend, whatever, as long as it slickens stuff up.

I haven't tried it yet, but I reckon ballistol would work well. That stuff is made to mix with water and to still work.

well,  the joke around here is,  my guys won't be able to hit squat if it's sunny, calm and 70.

cause we never train in weather like that.

If you're cold, wet, muddy, tired, hungry and miserable, it's "good training."  Otherwise, it's just a walk in the park, and what good does that do anybody?

Folks that would come from other parts of the US would ask why we didn't wait for the wind to die down to shoot long range here. We would always answer "Cause we want to shoot more than once a year."

Oklahoma is much like the rest of the plains states. If you do not like the weather. Then wait for an hour it will change. So typically competitions or training go on no matter what the weather is doing. Since planning for good weather is pretty much impossible.

Inclement weather here is when the temps get over 100F.  In the shade.

Our rain storms don't last long enough to train during them.  You can't see the targets during our dust storms.

Had some old jacka&& a couple of years back ask me, " Hot enough for ya' son? He he. "   :scrutiny  I said, " Yes sir.  It was hot enough for me in January.  What I really like, though, is when it gets hot enough that all you old fluffers stay in the house and I don't have to answer stupid questions.".   I put the gas nozzle back in it's cradle on the gas pump, got in the mail truck and drove away without another word being spoken.   :cool

I've shot in rain, snow, sleet, heat, wind, you name it. Doesn't really bother me, and generally there's less people there at the range; in fact, you can usually guarantee you'll have it all to yourself if it's raining. Only time I punk out is in really cold weather (that's teens and below to me, laugh it up Yoopers) because I just really don't like being cold.

Only thing I do is clean it as soon as I get home to make sure no moisture sits there for too long. I don't do anything extra to it.
I'm not saying you should use an M1A for home defense, but I'm also not saying you shouldn't.

Well, hell yeah it did. The mail person is a polite professional that you only interact briefly with, if at all, in your day. If he managed to break a professional veneer which he only had mere minutes to do, he either has had years to practice his evil craft or he is your average 4chan user. Either way, I'm sure he had to reconsider his whole day  :neener.

Ok - I see the problem.  You are assuming that at the end of an 8 or 9 hour day of delivering mail in Phoenix in the summertime that there was any sort of polite, professional veneer remaining.  At that point I wasn't a mail carrier addressing one of his customers - just another guy at the gas pumps at the convenience store.  Wearing the uniform and driving the truck seems to trigger the need to speak in some people - they just can't help it.   :shrug   As I recall it was near the end of July or maybe the beginning of August when this happened so I would estimate that was probably about the sixty third time I'd heard the same stupid question that summer.  At some point you begin to wish they would just be quiet and when wishing for it proves fruitless you start trying different conversational responses that may have the desired effect.  Lucky me - I found one that worked!   :cool

I rather like that line, and I hope you have no objection to me using a slightly modified version of it.
It was 120F here yesterday, and has been around that all week and will be getting hotter next month, and we have the same wits who say similar things as well as the loathed, "It's not the heat, it's the humidity", a comment that I think warrants summary execution with a blunt object.
