At last I have found myself a gun to desire, that is just out of reach.

I have recently become aware of the S&W Hand Ejector model in .44 Special. Specifically, the 1950 Military Model. While I can not justify a purchase right away... I need to get one of these before I die.

Go ahead and post pictures of your grail guns.

My #1 Grail Gun is a Detonics Combat Master, specifically a Seattle-manufactured Mk.III with Pachmayr grips & mainspring housing.

Had mine already. Sold it a year or so ago. Unfortunately, the intersection of "I want it" and "I can have it" came before the realization that even a "grail gun" is just a gun, with all the strong points and weak points inherent in its design and execution. Nice gun, but I doubt if I would buy it back again if it was offered to me for what I sold it for.

Sweet gun. My father had a Target Model of 1950. Pretty much the same gun, but with a slightly longer barrel, adjustable rear sight and a target trigger. Paid about $50 for it in the mid 50s. Gave it to my step-brother. Who doesn't shoot. Who lives in Sweden. The gun is still at my dad's house, I think. I shot it a couple of years ago. Shoots real smooth, but I can't see the skinny black front sight for diddly.

If I could actually Afford the gun and the Ammunition I could afford to hire Steve Karnes to reproduce(and upgrade) the predator and T2 mounts and build me a modern mount. His current handheld Miniguns are self contained so no hiding a power cable down my leg.

My "grail" gun is a SMG Guns FG-42. I've been on the waiting list for a couple of years and when Rick sent me the email that my number has come up I didn't have the $$ so I went to the bottom of the list again. From what I hear they are working on a "Type 1" rifle now which is my "true grail gun" so I just might wait for that one to go into production...but who knows if I can even pay for that one.

Mine is more of a group of guns... See, I want an M1 carbine, a GI M1911A1, and an M1 Garand.

If I had to choose one, I'd get a singer M1911A1.

I can't imagine what weak point would make you sell it if you were able to reload for it.

Well, I owned and shot it for a few years. Yes, I was able to feed it, albeit not cheaply. I could generally find loaded ammunition and/or components even during the great ammunition shortage. Yes it was accurate - more so than me. I liked everything about it. It finally occurred to me that I had exactly what I had always wanted in a 1911 but it was still a 1911. Don't get me wrong - I love them and will not intentionally be without one, but it was like getting a prom date with the most beautiful girl in school and at the end of the evening realizing that you actually liked the girl next door just as well. My old series 70 Colt Combat Commander in .45 ACP is still with me and the prom queen got sold when I found myself in a tight spot financially.

I'm not sorry for the experience - I learned a good deal from both that gun and the 'smith who built it for me but if I were going to go with a smaller caliber 1911 today it would probably be the full sized Range Officer model from Springfield Armory in 9mm. It's about 90% of what my custom gun was at about 50% of the cost.

I want the Raw receiver for one and then have it listed as a "pistol". That way i can legally copy a Clyde Barrow Scattergun. The question then becomes...How short can i get the barrel with it still being reliable.

Between the 92A1 and the AR becoming what I wanted it to be from the beginning (she's at the 'smith's now, but their worklist was looong), I'm pretty much set. The only other things that I actually want are the three I'll inherit, and I'm happy to wait for them.

The lever .357 is more of a "Hey, cool.." idea. So is the CX4.

That is actually sound logic. If the weapon serves no purpose for you, other than 'cool factor,' you probably have better things to be buying.

Of course, desire is often devoid of logic...

My grail gun is the Sig 550

Always thought they were about the sexiest modern combat rifle ever designed.

The reason I got my (very meh) Sig-Sauer 556R, because it's as close as I'll probably ever get.

The very few rare pre-ban semi-autos in the states are running around $10,000 and I don't see them opening it up anytime in the future.

You have good taste Kaso, one of my near-top grail guns is a S&W Triple Lock. Always thought one of those in .44 special would be just.....perfect. A good companion piece to all the old New Mexico and Arizona tales I read in the old gun magazines.
