I think he's in the UK, and unfortunately most of his stuff has to be replicas due to their horrible gun laws.   Even a replica L85 is pretty uncommon and interesting though.

That's right! I thought it was UK.

That just adds to the allure and curiosity of how he procured it then :cool.

Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.
Capacity wasn't really an issue then... and honestly really it's not even an issue now.

Though I do own replicas many of my  guns, the pictured L85 included, are real but deactivated. But yes, finding a deactivated L85 is difficult nowadays, most of those made are still in service. I got mine at the time H&K were doing the revamp from L85A1 to L85A2 and it was one of about 200 I believe that H&K decided were too poor to upgrade. Some were converted to fire blanks for film props and others were deactivated. Mine was one of those which is why it has the older style cocking handle. At the time it cost £550, but now with the upgrades I've added and thanks to them all being snapped up quickly it's worth about five times that.
Legally speaking it's actually easier to buy a deactivated gun than a realistic replica. Realistic replicas require the purchaser to be a member of a group that has suitable public liability insurance and many dealers insist on you being a member of a particular group (so completely ignoring other legitimate sources of insurance), whereas all you need to buy a genuine deactivated gun is the money in your hand.

Well here in the US I have heard that the Only L85 imported are a small number of "Post '86 Dealers Samples". Tis a pitty that they are not available to the average person.

Don't know how, but I'm gonna own a semi auto ppsh-41 one of these days.

    Who imports/sells them?

Someone was making them a couple of years back. I don't remember who though. From what I heard though they weren't that reliable which is why I didn't pick one up.

As far as interesting looking guns the L85 makes my list. It is one of those guns that I don't think I would want to own but would very much like to look at disassemble and shoot.

In no particular order some other guns that come to mind off the top of my head.
The FN P90 also makes my list. I find the magazine system interesting yet it seems extremely practical to the point where I wonder why no one else uses it.
FN MAG would be another one. I find belt feds of just about every type interesting and I wonder how it would compare to the PKM
MG-42 much for the same reasons as the MAG
SVD I would like to see exactly how well the gun really performs plus you don't see them every day.
Accuracy international AW This gun has always interested me for what ever reason
Sako TRG22 Again another interesting bold design.
F-88 I want to shoot one.
FN FNC It would be interesting to see how it compares to the L1A1
Those Calico guns, not sure what they are called exactly the feed system is bound to interesting much like the bizon
Bizon submachinegun the feed system has to be interesting
Owen again off ball feed system. Though no where near as odd as the previous two. Plus I have never seen one and have in interest in Australian military stuff.
F1 for much the same reasons
Sterling I always liked the look of those probably because I watched star wars too many times
Already mentioned the Webley-Fosbery I can't think of another semiauto revolver.
HK G11 A gun so far ahead of its time it will probably never see the light of day again.
That Russian rifle that had that extremely fast 2 round burst. I can't think of the name of it right now. The idea seemed good though the picture of the internals look overly complex but interesting.
1919 What can I say again I find belt feds interesting.
That vector pistol from South Africa that seems to have disappeared into distant memory as I recall it was gas operated
Franchi SPAS-12 who doesn't want to kill raptors eh?
That squeeze coked P7 or what ever it was from HK
That Chinese QZB-95 or what ever there rifle is called.
That air powered gun that Lewis and Clark had. I have no idea what the name if it was.
    Ferguson rifle
A short list that I could come up with off the top of my head.
    Doobie Doobie Doo...

I've always found the Bergman - Simplex pistols to be very neat looking:

Also the new PL-14 from Russia is very cool looking as well, although I'm guessing since the Russians haven't really had an original idea betwixt them in the last 100 years or so, I'm guessing this thing is just a dolled up version of some other pistol or something in that vein.

    still looks cool though.

    Also, the COP four-barreled derringer.

Interesting, but...ultimately it will never be lighter than a, say, alloy J-Frame, because it has multiple steel barrels.

Nightcrawler:  The only thing the COP was good for was as an odd looking paperweight.
The only way to actually hurt someone with one was to throw it at them.

Having said that the two guns I always thought were cool looking were the VP70Z ( I really miss mine.) and the old High Standard Sentinel MK IV with the 4" barrel.  It had such graceful lines.  My ex got that one in the divorce.

That is totally either based on the Steyr M9, or by the same designer who did that gun, the Caracal and a bunch of others.

SIG still lists them in their catalog so I assume that they are still in production.  I absolutely love my Gen. 2 P250C 9mm that it's my EDC piece.  I even have the full size conversion kit along with the .45ACP compact conversion that I use for winter/cold weather carry.  In a way I was glad that the pistol had a poor reputation because I picked up mine for a song in like-new condition along with the conversions.

The Gen. 2 guns are squared away but for some reason they are still the bastard children of SIG.  It's a shame because they really are solid guns that shoot great.  It's hard to believe that I went from a HK P7 to this...but I actually prefer the P250 for a few reasons.

And I like the Sig 250, too.

Speaking of, did they discontinue the Sig 250 now that they have the striker-fired gun?

Speaking of the Rhino, I've always liked the look of its ancestor, the Mateba.

    Oh, my yes.

I would carry the s*** out of one in .44 mag.

Matebas are, unfortunately, out of production, and have been for some time. And parts are darn near impossible to come by. So while I'd love to have a Mateba that I could put on display above our fireplace, I'd never carry it or shoot it because if it broke (and apparently they are somewhat fragile) then repairing it would be nigh on impossible.

I know. If they still made one I'd have one.

But even if I came across a .44 I'd carry the hell out of it. I wouldn't shoot the hell out of it. Just enough downrange to get used to it.

    National Standard

Is it just me, or does the National Standard look massively over-sized and over-built for a .357 Magnum? As in more so than the GP100?

And how come nobody's mentioned this classic yet:

Merkel hunting rifle.  This is about as futuristic as a classic turn-bolt hunting rifle can look.  :cool

Another that's cool looking, I think, is the Spectre M4 submachine gun.  Finding actual pictures of this thing, vs. airsoft copies, is a challenge.  I think it's been in more video games and animes than actual examples were produced.
