So I got an email from J&G about a can of 300 7.62X54R rounds on stripper clips for $70. Cool I've already got a couple spam cans of it but none of it is on clips so I decided to order some.
The UPS guy arrives yesterday with a cardboard box from them which is obviously the rounds because I have to sign for it and it's heavy. Weird I think they just shipped the spam cans before by slapping a shiiping label on them. Its never been boxed before.
So I open the box and behold the beauty of this can. It looks like the Russians retreived it from the armory of the Potemkin. It's made out of some type of cheap rolled metal that looks like it was tack welded and soldered together. There is faded Cyyric writing on it and the exterior looks very weathered. No paint on this box. There is no obvious way to open it. A tab of metal sticking out of the solder isn't it. My spam can opener won't work. Going to have to ponder this one overnight.
So this afternoon I decide to get industrious and open it. First the hacksaw to make a big enough cut in it so I can pry it up enough to get a pair of tin snips in to start cutting. I started with a screwdriver and then moved on to a small crowbar. Just enough room for the cuts but it definitely ain't going to pretty or smooth. I finally make the cuts big enough that I can remove a box of ammo from inside. There are different sizes in it and it takes me a little bit of pulling on a small end to realize the the way they are packed you have to pull the large side out first. The whole time I'm worried I'm going to cut the hell out of myself on the jagged metal.
Success but by now I'm feeling like a British soldier at Isandlwana getting ammunition from the quartermaster. I'm also worried I might be unleashing some type of plague...
After all that effort I had to try loading my Mosin with a clip of ammo. At least that part was easy!
