Opinions on Rifle Slings?
« on: March 25, 2017, 08:56:07 PM »
Now that my AR-15 (aka "Kindness") is finally complete and in-spec, I figure I should start kitting it out. I already have a light (Streamlight Pro-Tac RM 2 on a MagPul MLOK Cantilever Mount) and I'll add a red dot once I learn to shoot with irons, probably a SIG Romeo4. The rifle also needs a sling (every rifle needs a sling!), but I'm clueless when it comes to slings.

I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a basic adjustable two-point sling. I'm planning on attaching it directly to the sling loops under the gas block and on the buttstock, no QD mounts or paraclips or anything like that. I figure I won't be running any high-speed-low-drag missions in, on, or around vehicles or aircraft, so I won't need to ditch the rifle in a hurry, so quick-detach mounts aren't necessary.

I was thinking maybe a MagPul MS1, but I'm curious as to what my other options might be. My only requirements are a) that it's easily adjustable but at the same time won't adjust on me when I don't want it to, and b) I can get it in OD or Ranger Green so it matches the rifle's furniture (I'm weird like that). Also, would a padded sling be necessary? I haven't weighed the rifle, but I figure it probably weighs somewhere between 7 to 7.5 lbs as it's currently configured, and that will probably increase to 7.5-8 lbs once I add the optic.

As always, thanks in advance.

I really like this one. We run them on our SWAT rifles. They quickly adjust and are wide enough not to cut into you too badly even after hours with the weapon hanging off your front.

Otherwise I'd just get some 1 1/2" or 2" strap and some plastic slides and make your own. I've done that on half my long guns.
