Sonny Puzikas shoots AI in CQB class.
« on: November 09, 2012, 04:00:49 pm »
http://soldiersystems.net/2012...e-careful-out-there/

Word is, from people in the class and someone I trust very much, in this training 'accident' Sonny Puzikas fired upon his AI, striking him three times, twice in the torso and once in the arm. They were in the second room, Sonny cleared the first room of the shoot house, then entered the second room where the AI and students were and without a white light began engaging what he saw. As I understand, there were 42 students to 2 instructors. Not placing blame or ACQ'ing, just reporting the facts as we know them

There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. - Ayn Rand

Sonny always seemed like a real pro, someone who I would have been happy to train under. Goes to show that anyone can have an accident, makes you humble when its someone of his caliber.

Further reading, Larry Vickers just laid into "warsaw pact" instructors, basically saying stay away if you value your life.

I've heard that some tend to die in accidents in Spetsnaz courses in Russia.

WTF?  Where is the fluffing control in an live shoot house?

Cop humor: I just read this aloud to a bunch of moderate speed/reduced drag officers, as a "hey let's not do this in training, mmmkay?" teachable moment.

"So, two in the chest, one in the arm?" One guy drawls. "At least his group was good."

    Daaaaamn, we're a tough crowd.

One thing that, occasionally, worries me about some of the so-called "tactical" training is that, sooner or later, a student is going to get killed or crippled and the antis will use the incident as leverage to try and regulate the training industry.  Regulate it out of existence if they can -- except for military and police of course.

I can recall incidents like this happening before. A couple years ago at Gunsite someone was on a catwalk above the shoot house and the student working through the house forgot about not egaging anything above the no-shoot-line.  :facepalm

If tactical firearms training were going to be government regulated it would probably have to happen at the state or local level, and whether that happens will depend heavily on the areas political inclinations. I sure don't see it happening here in AZ at gun school ground zero.

I agree that all that will be required is a high profile tragedy involving a student or bystander at a training course, and we will all be treated to 60 Minutes devoting whole segments of their show to the growing threat of "unregulated training camps" where people are "trained to be insurgents" and "safety regulations are horribly lax to nonexistent", and, my God, they could be TRAINING TERRORISTS.

Sonny shooting an assistant probably won't get them there. It will need to be a student or bystander, and it will require an aggrieved family willing to cry on camera and file suit.

    But it will happen.

Target Identity is less of a concern to the Russians... this doesn't surprise me.  Just because he was on TV a few times with a Spetznas backround and is one scary motherfluffer, doesn't mean he is a professional instructor.  He's a Celebrity.  And this cements the opinion that I had before that I wouldn't want to be on the same range with him.

He and Yeager have a lot in common.  Yeager's background is LEO now teaching warfighting.  So is Puzikas.  Puzikas was MVD.  Ministry of the Interior.  Police.  They have Spetsnaz, too.  Actually, just about every agency in the USSR had Spetsnaz of some kind.  All "spetsnaz" means is "special purpose".

There are literally hundreds of thousands of Spetsnaz veterans from the former Soviet Union.

The sad part is, here in the west we have this gravely mistaken notion that Spetsnaz is like our SF. They aren't. They are roughly equivalent to and airborne infantry unit. They are nothing special. After working with two airborne brigades and a Spetsnaz brigade in the Ukraine, I am so very unimpressed. They have a few units that are similar to our SF, but your run of the mill Spetsnaz is nothing but of organic sandbags on a normal day, our airborne infantry on their absolute best days.

This is the kind of training they do....? I don't know a single SOF entity or SWAT/SRT entity that uses any of this kind of training. Maybe there is a reason for that....

Yes, Sonny does this stuff in his classes, and below we have James Yeager.

Someone tell me again how great it is to train with these a$$clowns.
