Run away from training like this.
« on: June 19, 2013, 03:05:33 am »

Seriously. You don't hit people with your gun. Just fire the weapon. Plus the instructor was slapping the pipe alternately with his gun and non gun hand, one of these days he's going to shoot himself in the hand.

Plus, the music is royalty free, and found on literally every sound editing software.

Some of that looks decent...other stuff...yeah. Position Sul, good. Using your handgun to smack away attacks, bad.

WTH? Art of the Wing Chun Gun? Bwahahaha!

Seriously, no one tosses a flashbang THEN picks up the shield. The shield man stands by ready to move while another teammate, specifically tasked, tosses in the distraction device. There's no reason to multi-task if theres enough help. That's just one of many headscratchers I saw.

My pet peeve: the dude may be a technically perfect Killer Elite badass but he can't be bothered to pass a PT test? Its beneath him. Ive walked out of two courses when the instructors showed up talking s___ but looking like pears and in one case, had some of his Grand Slam breakfast on his t-shirt. I know firsthand that appearances can be decieving, book-by-the-cover, etc., etc., but that's the exception rather than the rule and fit-to-fight is more than just a catch phrase.

Geez. Reminds me of American Defense Enterprises.

Some day someone is going to get hurt in one of those Walter Mitty schools. Then the government will want to jump in and regulate the training industry.

Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.
Capacity wasn't really an issue then... and honestly really it's not even an issue now.

Rather than deal with possible government regulation of training come into play, I would be pleased to see some kind of industry group form.  It would write standards for safety or other topics as needed, and participation or certification would be voluntary.  (Think Underwriters Laboratories, American Bureau of Shipping, American Society of Mechanical Engineers.)  Fire Arms Trainers & Writers Association (FATWA) or something like that.  Come up with rating systems for sites and instructors, track accidents, and rate sites and instructors according to published standards through voluntary participation.

No one would need FATWA certification, but it might lead to lower insurance rates, or certain consumers (police departments) might start requiring it for contracts, or individuals might choose to conduct their own training with FATWA certified trainers.  Without maintaining credibility, no one would pay for certification, so ones of the keys would be to avoid jacktards and dumbasses when writing the standards and choosing a board.

I do think an industry association would be a good thing.    Right now we are basically limited to looking for youtube videos and opinions on web forums.

Grant Cunningham, Rob Pincus, and others have been working on just such a thing since last years Shot Show, I think.

An industry group is a good thing. Government regulation is a bad thing.

It would be especially good if the industry group got enough traction that it could offer legal support (things like liability insurance, expert testimony at trials, maybe even direct legal representation at a reduced rate for members/supporters), though that will be a ways down the road.
