Some pictures of my Nadya
« on: June 12, 2012, 10:33:24 PM »
So, I posted almost two weeks ago that I acquired a 1952 Hungarian M44 carbine.  I thought I would share some pictures after I got her home and cleaned her up.  My wife's grandfather, whom I bought it off of, didn't do a very good job initially cleaning her and maintaining her.  She was never broken down to be cleaned and he removed a lot of the exposed bluing in his efforts to remove the cosmoline.  I almost cried when I saw the amount of cosmoline still inside of her.  She also had some surface rust which left minor pitting in the bore due to being put away without cleaning after shooting surplus ammo, but after some TLC and elbow grease, Nadya has cleaned up decently and shoots well.  Once again Slipstream has proved to be worth its weight in gold.  Just don't tell my wife I am having a love affair with an older beautiful Hungarian woman ;)  I do have some questions regarding decent scope mounts.  I found this: http://www.amazon.com/Sports-Mosin-Nagant-Scope-Mount/dp/B000R7872Y and I want to put a Millet red dot scope on her.  Have any of you done this to your Mosin, does it work well?  Also, are the cheap Amazon slings ok?  Sorry for all the questions, I am a newb to the Mosin.  I have hopes of taking a hog with this gun in the next few years, seems to me she would be decent for hunting with the sling and fwd mounted red dot, thoughts?  I inscribed her name on the butt plate in Cyrillic, rather fitting I think.  And I am still hoping that this gun may have seen some action, possibly in the Hungarian uprising in 1956 based on its origin and year of manufacture.  Maybe she had a different name once upon a time, given to her by a Hungarian rebel as he used her to fight for his freedom.  Well, here are some pictures of Nadya, enjoy...

M44s are getting hard to find and expensive, but a lot of the Chinese equivalents have become available: http://www.jgsales.com/mosin-nagant-chinese-type-53-rifles,-7.62x54r-caliber.-used,-good-condition.-p-2341.html
