Mondragón rifle
« on: June 22, 2013, 08:29:09 PM »
Being the first automatic rifle, the Mondragón is pretty high on my wish list. Anyone know how many were actually built? How many made it to the States?

According to the Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondrag%C3%B3n_rifle), there were about 5,000 made, of which only 3,000 made it to Mexico (rifles were made by SiG in Switzerland, Mexico lacking the necessarily production capacity at the time.)

Actually, only 2000 made it to Mexico.  The other 3000 still at Sig were purchased by Germany.  Those were just the Sig produced ones.  How many were produced in Mexico between 1910 and 1943 isn't stated in the article.

Regardless, unless you find one that was already here and was registered by May of 1986, forget about owning one legally.

I've seen figures of over a million, prabably the number ordered from the Swiss.
ForgottenWeapons.com says it is a semi-auto, this may be a variant or a mistake.
This thing is certainly on a wish list, as I'm unlikely to be able to find one or be willing or able to drop the money on it. Especialy if they are all fully automatic.
