Mountain out of molehill much guys? The lady had no idea what she had. The cops can't control what people bring. She kept it and will get its dollar value because of the cops. Any idea what guns shops near retirement communities get? A buddy has a shop near Sun City and constantly getting widows calling. This isn't the drama you are making it out to be.

Had a buy back on Oahu in the early 80's. Woman called and demanded someone come over and get "those danged rifles" out of the garage. Said they belonged to her late husband. She directed the responding officers to the garage, opened the "old wood boxes" to show them the 2 Lahti anti-tank rifles and ammo. She didn't even want the grocery store gift cards fore turning them in. Same program, saw a Winchester 1 of 1,000 turned in for a free turkey dinner.

Sometimes you just want to sit down and cry.

Sad thing is, I wonder how many historical or otherwise valuable firearms get turned in at these things where there aren't cops with some scruples that get destroyed (or, the cynical side of me says, end up in a cops personal collection).

A friend of mine had a Lahti that he registered during the '68 Amnesty (along with about a hundred other NFA items. Really blew the ATF agent's mind when he flipped back the tarp on the pickup bed.) We fired it a few times - and it is a no-fun gun to shoot. We had the semi-auto trigger group in, but he had the full-auto group as well. I can't imagine firing that beast full auto.
