Chinese Type 53? (Mosin Nagant)
« on: January 18, 2012, 01:10:30 PM »
Just curious if they're anything worth picking up.    I'm not real interested in picking them up, but they're kinda intriguing because I've not seen any Chinese Mosin's around here.   Lot of Russians, few Finns, but no Chinese in all my watching.

I think I'd pass, $150+ shipping.      Just was curious, as I've not seen Chinese ones for sale before, these are from SOG, SOG also has M44 Russians for $180+shipping.    Gonna pass on them for sure since I've got a nice M38.

Dude, I wish I could pick up a Russian M-44.  I don't know why I didnt want one earlier.

The Chinese rifle is pretty much a straight clone, AFAIK.  Nothing really special about it.
CaliforniaThere are many like it, but this one is mine.

If you'll shoot and enjoy it, it's worth picking up. Just don't expect to drive nails with it.
Some people call the midwest the heartland, I prefer to think of it as the liver. Not too interesting, and easy to ignore until it quits working.

Sight radius is really short too, which detracts from accuracy. powerful enough though, and ammo's cheap.

You can drive nails with it.  It's a Mosin.  That's what the steel buttplate is for.

Omega in Tucson has them @ $69.00 + $25.00 s&h.  I got my 1955 T53 from them back when they were 55 and 15 - 70.00 total.  Ugly rifle, looks like it was dragged behind a duece and a half off road for about 20 miles.  Best shooter I have among the 91/30; M27; and my Yugo sks.

Just was gonna say: If y'all want a T-53 SOG is doing a deal, buy 3, pay $94 apiece.

I picked up 3 awhile ago and my freaking "friends" stole two of them.  (Well okay they paid me, but the guns left mostly unwillingly  :rotfl )

I got 3 more ordered.    Metal on the first three was GREAT with MINT bores, wood was rough.     Cash is super-tight, but I think keeping them as an investment for 5 years from now is worthwhile.  I ended up paying $109 apiece shipped.    if I wanted (ain't going to) I could sell all three for $170 apiece around here.

As stated above the furniture is crap, but the metal and bores are really nice.  I picked one up recently for $100 (boss gave me a discount for looking through all of them) and they shoot well.  Now I'm in the process of chopping the barrel, installing muzzle brake, AK pistol grip and Ace side folder stock.  I'll keep you posted.

[A S&W J-frame] is kinda like a stick shift car. It is harder to drive and harder to master than an auto, but you can do things with it that you can't do with an auto. Just because you're too incompetent to do it doesn't mean it can't be done.

It's just a fun project for myself.  I know a lot of people won't like it, but I think it's cool.  At least it will be something I can still shoot affordably these days.  You can take a look at my progress on my blog in the link below this, www.bubbleheadgunnut.wordpress.com
