Truth.  And more than a few rusted away and fell apart from neglect over the years.   :banghead

our family history is that my great grandfathers & -uncles uniforms were destroyed after the war, to prevent harassment by Yankee occupation troops.

also equipment was tossed into the Uwharrie River and what is now High Rock Lake.

From the tone of post-war journals, many a southern lake of sufficient depth is filled with accoutrements.

Only up north, do you still find large family museums filled with heirlooms and captured souvenirs.

Had a buddy years ago who was married to a cia guys daughter. It was in DC but when it slipped out I was interested in guns, her father brought me downstairs and opened up a trunk. When he was stationed in Europe he was in a small town, and they drained one of the lakes for some reason. Lying there buried in the soft mostly oxygen free mud were a bunch of guns. I don't remember all the story, but apparently they were thrown in there after ww1 or ww2.  he had a bunch of lightly rusted handguns and a nice Colt 1917 .45 revolver that he had had re-blued. Would have thought the story was BS till he showed me the finds!

A friend gave me a #5 carbine. That's a friend indeed.  I had to buy the magazine.

Same model, not nearly so nice- his had the typical re-blue with an over enthusiastic polishing job- flats rounded, sharp edges blurred, that sort of thing.  I really miss seeing a good bluing job- the last factory piece I saw that was good was a custom shop Smith, with the soft velvety blue they used to put on the standard guns. To find a good high gloss blue is a custom proposition any more.

I finally got the Robert Faller drilling to Oleg Volk for professional photos.

I figured it was something other than what I asked about.  Basically I was just giving you the "bizness".   :cool   Serves you right for making me read all that non fiction related commentary in your latest collection.   :neener

I love those drillings.   I'd like a nice combination gun at some point and a drilling for retirement.  Think it would be a nice walkabout gun.

Beautiful specimen.  Not to be 'that guy,' but is it registered as an SBR, or is it a C&R allowance that allows the stock to be used?  Or just good photography angles?  Not calling you out, rather I am curious how it works.

Brownings and Lugers with original stocks are grandfathered C&R.  Certain models can have a repro stock--ATF letters are not consistent. But original is legal as is.
