Added some new stuff in the last year
« on: February 13, 2016, 12:14:03 AM »
So I'll dump it all in one post

This is a Congolese Ikakalaka, about 50-75 years old.

Luftwaffe dress dagger, late war.

Indonesian Keris, layered iron and nickel (pamor) etched to show the colors.  The hilt is carved hippo tooth. 1850-1900

1862 Colt Pocket Navy, factory converted to .38 RF. I made the holster based on an original police holster.

.44 Automag, High Standard contract.

Milled some more ARs

S&W Triple Lock, .44 Special

Two more M44s because Widener's had them cheap.

Native made Eskimo seal club.

1000 year old Viking axe from north of Archangel, Russia

Flamethrower:

Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.
Capacity wasn't really an issue then... and honestly really it's not even an issue now.

The Automag and the flamethrower were definitely the highlights of ScheutzenBoomenVigger.

Further details:  Mike's flamethrower uses a mixture of diesel and food-grade Fireclean propelled and mixed by CO2 and ignited by a propane torch.  So no worries about flash ignition of fumes like you would get with non-jellied gasoline.  It's safe enough that I let my daughters use it.

Mike, what was the mix formula you said worked best?

Diesel thickened with about 25% oil, but I've heard that half/half diesel/gasoline has more range. I'll have to experiment.

It is likely from Bali, the top of the sheath and handle are indicative.

do you have a copy of George Cameron Stones book, " A glossary of the construction , decoration and use of arms and armor"? An excellent reference on oriental and ethnographic arms.

That is the truth! 1934.. still relevant for most of the stuff I am interested in, though.

His interest seemed to mostly be eastern weapons- it is amazing to read the credits and see how much of what is in the book  was his personal collection. Wonder whatever happened to it.

I wonder what has happened to a lot of personal collections. I have been tracking down a lot of local family history and I have ran across a lot of Civil War history among all the families I'm related to and I've wondered what happened to all the sabers, etc. that many of them carried. Many of them were in the same cav and infantry units in the CSA. I've seen photos of them with their sabers unless they were borrowed for the photos. I, being a knife ho', can't for the life of me understand why you would get rid of an heirloom piece like that. Might have traded it for food, crop seed, etc. back in those days

our family history is that my great grandfathers & -uncles uniforms were destroyed after the war, to prevent harassment by Yankee occupation troops.

also equipment was tossed into the Uwharrie River and what is now High Rock Lake.

From the tone of post-war journals, many a southern lake of sufficient depth is filled with accoutrements.

Only up north, do you still find large family museums filled with heirlooms and captured souvenirs.

    I have Confederate pistols.

Keep in mind the Rebs NEVER had the budget the North had, and repurposed a lot of stuff.  I expect a lot of swords got turned into brush knives.
