WTS: Sig 556R
« on: October 29, 2016, 11:42:13 pm »
Located in MT. Will ship. Cross-posted for first sale.

  Well....my 556R....good gun....I just....well...still sorta like it.  :facepalm   But it's not a Sig 550....

I don't really WANT to sell it but figure I should get something that calls to me more.

I am wanting $1200 shipped to WTA VETERAN MEMBERS ONLY.   Otherwise it's $1275 shipped.

I....maybe...would be interested in trading for a metric FAL or 16/18" M1A as well.    Or a Egyptian Maadi AK.      If you have a Sig 553 and be interested in working something out I may throw in a kiss on the deal  :whistle

Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.
Capacity wasn't really an issue then... and honestly really it's not even an issue now.

Yep.  These take any standard AK mag, so sourcing a good supply for cheap will be no problem.

Based off of the Sig 550s, (which have an AK-like action) the 556Rs are American-made Swiss AKs.  Truly the cream of the crop.  If I were to choose between a top-shelf Arsenal AK or one of these...  Definitely the Sig.

And no, Grant is not paying me.  I just recognize this as a good buy, especially if things tighten up here in the next month.

I must admit that after shooting the normal 556, it is lovely and soft shooting as ever.

I think I'm going to end up buying more Sig handguns in the future, so I'm sure I'll eventually get one of their rifles in the mix as well. In addition to wanting an FAL really badly (as Grant said he would be willing to trade for).

Honestly, I hope he does get an FAL for his trouble. I don't know why, but they seem very tough to come by  :shrug.

If it was the regular 5.56 version, I think I would consider trading an FAL, since I have 9 of the things.  I don't know about 7.62x39 though since it is hard to get good ammo like this rifle deserves.  I would feel bad running s___ty steel cased wolf through it.

It will eat the steel too.  It was made to.  And the better brands of steel are going to be plenty good enough for EBR contact distances.

But if you have to feed it brass, I'm sure it would love that too.  ;)

To be fair, 4 of those are in pieces.   Got the parts and receiver, but never put them together.  Had parts kits for three more, but I sold them a few years ago.  I got a little crazy with the kit buying from 2001-2003.

Yeah, five FALs is a lot.  One for each hand, one for each of his wife's hands, and a nice one left over to trade for a Swiss AK. :hmm

It eats steel plumb fine.   It isn't super accurate with it: I had always said it shoots 3.5" with steel.  Just before I unscoped it and said "man I don't know what to do" I shot it again and it does BARELY 3".    So with steel it does the bare maximum I accept from a rifle.   And I'm sure brass would shrink it a lot.

Not trying to......sell my gun  :neener  But the 556R's reviews and use, etc. I've never seen anything but steel run through it.   And in my eyes I don't mind steel in the least.

I really need to get the other ones put together.   I lent my barrel vise and receiver wrench to my uncle in Florida though, so I don't have the tools at the moment.   I thought about just sending them off to get professionally built and refinished.    Maybe next year after I have my rental house paid off.

No.   I've got a pretty good variety, but none of those.    I got a couple of them already built,  one was made out of STG-58 parts,  one was Argentine.    The others were a mix of Imbel parts kits, G1s,  and some Australian L1A1s.

Cool.  I keep kicking around whether I want a FAL or not.  If I do I think I'd want a 18 or 16" barrel rather than a 21.....21's are okay but just a bit longer than needed for a non-DMR type rifle.

    I think we've derailed Grant's WTS post.

I used to have a 556R.  When I first bought it, I then bought 10k rounds of 7.62x39.  It's a great rifle and is solid.  I bought mine 3 years ago during the time when .223/5.56 ammo was almost going for $1 a round and AR's were $2k+

I sold my rifle earlier this year to fund another purchase but this is a solid rifle.

It is the gen 2.  Not a "fixed" gen1 but a Gen 2, you can tell by the non-collapsing buttstock.
