WTS: Sig 228 (MT) (possibly for sale)
« on: April 24, 2016, 11:03:28 pm »
   Okay.....got a question for y'all here.....

I am not 100% sure what I'm planning here, but I'm putting this up because of the situation:

I have a Sig 228 9mm that I like......but isn't what I want.   And money is tight this year so I'd just as soon get rid of it.   There's a gunshow coming up next weekend.  I'd prefer to sell to a WTA member who would actually appreciate and use the gun (Didn't Bud sell a 228 that went through like 3 more WTA members?) rather than the gunshow, but only want the hassle of shipping if it's another WTA person.

It would come with one 13 round magazine and.....$475 shipped sound like a fair deal?  with 5 more 15 round magazines for $20 apiece or all 5 for $90 so $565 package deal.       I Think that's fair, I'm seeing 228's go for more and this would be a good deal FOR.....a WTA member. Anyone who joined just for the deal would be out.   I'd also be interested in a S&W 27, 28 or 57 or 58 4" blued model.

I am NOT.....100% sure I am going to sell, but because the gunshow is close I wanted to check and see if anyone wanted first dibs now rather than wait until the day before the show.

Let us know what you plan on doing, the price is amazing for that handgun.

I like sigs, but have never had the privilege to own one. I tried looking up the specs on this one, but all that came up was the M11. 228 isn't listed on the sig website currently  :hmm.

the price is good, since it is for WTA veteran members only and of course I'd have the garauntee that it'd stay a WTA family gun ;)

I have gotten away from Sigs, but if I were a new shooter, and wanted to have just one Sig...  P228, hands down.

I do not currently own one, but the P228 is probably number 3 on the 'if you can only have one handgun' list.

MTK20, you don't have a Sig yet... :hmm

Confession time, Kaso  :-[. I have about upwards of 400 dollars to make a gun purchase with. I wish to try out ankle carry and I still have your ankle glove pending on the way here. My initial intention was to use Dad's Taurus J frame to try it out, but.... I will have to buy my own gun (the Taurus is too precious for my use apparently :P). That is fine, I am looking at an airweight centennial as we speak, it is $419.00 dollars here. So, I could buy this right now and it is mighty tempting (if Grant does decide to sell), however I have a previous obligation with which I should give ankle carry the old college try. And believe me I definitely want to give ankle carry a go, I mean multiple wheelguns on your person? Is it Christmas?  :cool

In essence I could have J frame or Sig, but not both right now and it takes me a painstakingly long time to save. That is today's dose of "coming clean" and honesty. I've been keeping that money locked up in my safe to make the purchase the second Luke told me he had shipped the holster.

Btw, Grant, I totally have a model 28 blued patrolman model Smith and Wesson revolver. The finish is good on it except where the right side of the barrel has holster wear. It would take a good deal of thought before I trade it, however, because:

    1. I love my Wheelie booms and am not eager to part with them.

    2. I wouldn't feel proper making you a trade with it when you haven't personally examined this used guns finish in person.

I'm not really a sig guy but seeing the price, it's a steal.

It is.  I am making my money back with no profit so it goes to a good home.    I cannot FORCE a member to do it once he has it, however I would ask the new owner to respect it and send it to a good home (if possible another WTA member)  and not acquire it simply for a profitable turnaround.

MTK.....hmm....how about you send me or post up a picture of that S&W 28  :cool    Wear, etc. means nothing to me as I will end up wearing down the finish in super quick time.

Ok, let me rationalise for both of our benefit. All of my handguns are carry guns. If I am to carry an N frame, it'll be my TRR8. If I did trade you perhaps I would still be able to get my j frame and the Sig.

The firearm is back home (parents home). Also, my phone camera is kind of stuffed, but I'll see what I can do. Let me check my phone for previously taken images, either that or we wait a few weeks after the semester for me to go back to Waco and take pictures of the gun there.

    Well, well! Found one!  :cool

See the blemish towards the end on the muzzle?  :(

If I had the cash, this would be a no brainer.  I'm wanting 228 and I'd be all over this.
But wife is needing a new vehicle and I'm sending 2 kids to Brazil for two years, and I need to buy two more tires for the Expedition and then my Equinox needs 4 new tires...
And I've got no guns I am willing to part with... even for a 228.

I'm still curious why the 228 isn't listed on the Sig website  :hmm. The M11 is and those two are very similar to my understanding.

You know what? I'm a poor college student, I've always wanted a Sig, and this is a damn good example of one. I cannot see myself ever owning/buying a Sig otherwise on my current budget.

Let me know if you are in fact going to sell this thing.

As far as payment, you said you needed money. I've got the money for this. I'll probably buy just the gun and one mag, but I think you've got a sale.

If you want my model 28, well. We will have to talk about it. I'm now not entirely opposed to trading it, but I've never mailed/shipped a gun before. I'm going to need some help/instruction on how to do so.

Once you're ready, let's discuss this. And remember, I was the first customer here to post with the funds to actually buy this  :cool. If I get out bid, fine, but I'm calling a form of "diluted dibs"  ;).

Btw, I've got just a week or two left before I'm back in Waco, so once we get the ball rolling on this you should have your money or gun soon.

The P228 is not listed on Sig's website, because it was discontinued in '06 or '07.  The P229 was an almost identical model, but with a milled slide, rather than the P228's stamped slide.  The P228 had a superior slide profile, however, and around 2010, Sig changed the slide profile of the P229 to closely match the old P228s.

The classic P228 remained popular, so Sig re-released it with a milled slide and a military M11 designation.

That is why the M11A1 is listed, but the P228 is not.

So then, I will be trading my discontinued Smith for a discontinued Sig? Well then, now I'm really on board   :cool. Not only is that desirable, that's fair  :thumbup1.
