WTK. Value for M1 Carbine, Inland.
« on: January 06, 2011, 01:24:10 PM »
Just wanting a "rough" opinion to make sure.   I checked gunbroker, etc.

I'm not buying, but a guy I know has a M1 Carbine he's trying to value, and he might sell eventually.

Barrel is marked 1-44 Inland Manufacturing, General Motors.

Receiver is 4,8XX,XX2 serial number.  It has a bayonet lug and rear sight marked (I think, can't remember now) 1, 2, 2.5, 3.  Four spots at least.   Good shape, no real "wear", it's sat, and stored a long time, stock has some rough spots, but smooth and not real dinged up.      Barrel is rough, but not pitted.

Everything I could see seemed to say Inland, so I don't THINK...it's an arsenal rework (not positive though).

I know it's tough to say without seeing a picture for you guys.  I was going to estimate and say around...$750?  $800 would be a fair price?

In pristine-100%-fresh-off-the-assembly-line-never-fired condition it might be $800.

I'm thinking closer to $400, maybe a shade over.

Inland are one of the least desirable M1 carbines. I think $350-400 is about accurate. A local pawn shop had one here for $350 missing a rear sight. I passed. If I recall correctly in my research, a lot of parts aren't compatible with other GI spec M1's. Don't quote me on that though.

  I thought Auto-ordnance made the non-compatable post-war M1 Carbines?

I was thinking rack-grade M1 Carbines were about $500 from the CMP themselves just before they sold out :hmm      'Cause I was deliberating on a cheaper/worse shape M1 carbine VS a $600 better-shape M1 Garand.

Universal, that's who I was thinking of that made non-interchangable M1 carbines.

That might have been who I was thinking of. It was a long time ago when I was looking into it.
