We would be up for either VA or PA, Jim likes to drive and I like to tag along. The weekend of June the 9th doesn't work for us though, our oldest will be graduating from HS that weekend.
:facepalm That sucks!  I know that I wouldn't mind changing the date, but some guys might have already put in for time off.  Are the 2nd or 16th any better for you. (Realizing, of course, that I can't change the date without asking around.)

I wasn't sure we had nailed down the ninth. I know most people indicated june would work though. LouisCQ1971 had said he would have to ask for time off on the 10th, but I wasn't sure he had already put in for time off, if he hasn't (Feel free to chime in here Louis) then maybe the 2nd or the 16 would work for everybody.

I'd be open to any weekend in June right now, just so my schedule is clear to all reading. I forgot about school getting out at that time, but I don't have any graduations to go to.

Most calibers welcome. No super-large stuff just because the steel won't handle it. Steel cased ammo is fine, steel core is not (again, for the steel plates). Being your own ammo, by all means. We do have ammo available on site, but you'll pay a convenience premium for it. No capacity or rapid fire limits. We bring full-auto toys out to play all the time. Minors under the age of 18 (I believe) must be accompanied by an adult. Other than that, just come ready to have fun. We've got plenty of steel to shoot at (LOTS more than the website pics show).

Eye and ear pro is available, but I'm not sure about any associated costs. Cameras are encouraged! :-)

I should probably clarify a couple things.

-There is no prohibition on ANY type of ammo as long as AP is not fired at our steel.  M855 style ammo is NOT AP. We have lower grade steel on the pistol side, so rifle caliber center fire stuff is not allowed on the pistol steel.
-We have loaner eye protection, at least ~10 pairs, and we give earplugs to anyone who needs them.  If we have it to provide, basic safety stuff isn't charged for.
-Video and still photography is encouraged, especially if you throw it up on Facebook and tag the range.  If someone asks you not to photograph them and you do anyway, you may be asked to leave.
-There are no prohibitions on caliber or fire rate as long as you are safe.  Any blatantly purposeful safety violations will result in being asked to leave.

I'll try to answer any other questions that pop up as I can.

Yeah, Louis is who I was thinking of.  Basically, what I was saying, is we need a group consensus to change/ set the date - not just me saying 'Let's change for Jim and Caryn.'

I am very open, as far as a date.  Heck, I could do it this weekend, if I wanted.

So long as we get the date nailed down at least 3 weeks beforehand (though earlier would be better) I can make any time from mid-May on work.

I'm fine with a different date. I have no schedule conmitments, so I'm fine with working around those that do.

I will be working in NoVa from 4-16 thru 5-25.
Beyond that... I have NO clue as to my work schedule.
We would bring Crusader Sterlings and .45-70s for fun time.
    Possibly other goodies as well.

What I am going to suggest, is if LouisCQ can do the 16th we settle for that date.  That would at least allow the possibility of Jim and Caryn's attendance. (Work schedule permitting)  It also would give T the maximum amount of notice, for his ticket.

    Thoughts, anyone?

16th works for me.  The following weekend is my birthday weekend, so I'll probably be tied up with family.

FWIW, I don't think we want to go any later than the 16th, because early June accommodates most of the guys who chimed in with preferences.

If you are thinking of coming out, check out Alligent air into Reagan International.  They tend to have pretty cheap rates.

And the 16th is good for me.

I'd very much like to make this one, too, but I'm kind of a long shot for now.  (Pun intended.)  I'm more distant, down in the far western end of VA; don't mind the drive, but will have to see what shape the exchequer is in -- and how much gas prices are going to hurt -- and what my call schedule will be.  Does anyone know about places to stay in the area?

If I do make it, I can offer a ride to anyone who can meet along I-81, as I'll be on that the whole way.

There are a couple decent motels in Martinsburg, there is also good camping in the area.  It depends on your preference.

It's semi, and no SBR tax stamp. I intend on SBR'ing it in the quasi near future.  Literally all you do is swap the barrel, which takes five, ten seconds.  I could afford the FA version, but...  ammo/insurance isn't cheap and more importantly, I don't want that kind of attention at the moment.

In addition, I was planning on buying some Uzi pistols after SBR. If I bought an FA, I'd have to sell any non-FA Uzis. Yes, you can theoretically legally own a semi and a full auto version of the same weapon. But... It's not a good idea unless you really know what you're doing, have a very plausible excuse (ie gunsmith or whatnot), have an excellent lawyer and have plenty of spare cash.  ATF can make your life hell.

In addition, I don't like full auto weapons that are fed via magazines. Drums, fine. Obviously I'm partial to belt. I hated three round burst and full auto on assault rifles. SMGs, ehhh, depends on the SMG obviously and the circumstances. Waste of ammo, and damn inaccurate unless you really know what you're doing and are well practiced. It's fun, sure. But I really do prefer semi.

Last time I shot the Uzi at the range, I put 31 out of 32 rounds through the nasal cavity of the target at 25m in somewhere between 10 and 15 seconds. You could dump a mag on FA in a third of the time with proper aimed fire, but unless you're well practiced, only a third of the rounds would hit even close to where you want.

I'm in providing my health is cooperating for the drive.  The date doesn't matter so all I'll need to know besides the date is where the range is located at.  Maybe a suggestion for when the details are firm to start a new thread with the when & where along with a roster of attendees.

Excellent idea.  I will ask a mod to start one in the 'Announcements' section, as soon as we have a firm date.

In that thread, folks can put down for attendance, as well as what toys they might bring.  That way we won't have six of one type of gun, and none of another.  For instance, if Jim and Caryn attend, and bring their Marlins, then I don't need to bring mine - I can bring other things, like my Benelli.

Yes, good idea. I have an BCM AR-15, spikes .22 AR, and glocks for my fun guns. I'd leave my other common hunting rifles at home.

Another question about the range:  What is the access like?  Is 4WD required?  Is it a good idea?  Or, are the roads pretty good, and anything will do?

Anything will do.  It is gravel/dirt for about 1/2 mile, so your vehicle will get a bit dirty.  We have a pavilion picnic area up there, the shooting positions are also covered, so we are good to go rain or shine.  I've only used 4WD when it's been snowy/icy.  Let's hope that we aren't getting snow in May!

Also, it's not free, but I could probably get us a group discount (seeing as how I'm an RSO for this range), but Tango Down Range would be a nice option right in the middle of the Eastern Panhandle of WV in Hedgesville.
Middle of page 2.  This thread sure has morphed!  ...But in a good way. :)
