ArcherandShooter here.   I'm not quite a "refugee" from THR, though there are some threads I assiduously avoid.

I'm looking forward to meeting new friends here and joining new conversations.  That, and learning stuff, too.

For those as don't know me, here's a little bit...

I'm 55, which means I remember life before the nanny state.

I grew up in the area around NYC, but I neither talk or think like that anymore.

In order, I've lived in (deep breath):
    - Connecticut
    - New York (city)
    - New Jersey
    - New Hampshire
    - Spain
    - Connecticut again
    - Arizona
    - California (SFO area)
    - New Mexico
    - North Dakota
    - Texas (DFW area - hated it)
    - Kanas
    - Missouri
    - California again (south Bay area)
    - Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh area)
    - Texas again, and for good this time

I work advising energy companies on financial risk management and I.T. systems.

I hunt deer, hogs and predators.  I got to hunt elk this year, too, though I didn't get one.

I shoot anything I can pick up and carry in one hand or two, though my two favorite guns so far are my Springfield 1911 and Remington 700 in .30-06.

I've been married for almost 27 years to a lovely lady who goes by the name of "springmom" on the gun boards, and we have 4 grown kids (2 married, no g-kids yet).  She's the one who describes me on her blog as "the other half of my heart".  The feeling is mutual, and pretty much describes our life together.   ;D

We live just north of Houston, but keep our hearts in a small place outside of Llano, TX, where we hope to retire before too many more years pass by.  Ask either one of us and we'll post pics and talk your ears off about our own little corner of paradise.

Politically, I'm right (take that however you please), but really just want the .gov to leave me and mine alone to live our lives and pursue our own happiness and prosperity as best we can.

That's enough for now; I expect we'll all to know each other pretty well as this site takes off.

    Blessings,
    A&S

Dirk, I lved in Sunnyvale for about 4 years.  that's where Springmom and I met and got married.  I worked for a couple of software start-ups and Atari while there.

when we left for Pittsburgh it was to attend seminary.

I'm really glad to see this forum.  I was originally a member of Frugal Squirrel Forum for several years.  When things went south there, I came to The High Road.  Now that seems to be developing serious hiccups, so I guess I have found a new home.  I browse a lot, post a little.  Glad to be here.

As a Crook County suburbanite, you have my sympathies, Bob.
