New updates
« on: November 03, 2012, 01:52:22 PM »
So we've been still working to get down our lead times I think shortly here I should be able to drop it down from 18 weeks but I'm holding off just a little to make sure it's going to work out. Mostly we've been putting out a few more orders lately than our normal speed and orders have slowed a little(which isn't bad since it will mean the lead time will come down a little because of it too). So that's good news to those of you who don't want to wait quite so long;)

On the personal front we've been getting our firewood up for the shop and the soon to be house and I'll get into that more shortly. But we've got around 50% of our wood split and stacked, and I've already finished with my dad's wood and one more load for my cutting buddy who helps me do all the cutting and splitting. So we're nearly done with that. Sarah and I decided to get a modular house this year to put on our land across from the shop. So we've been dealing with the bank and trying really hard to get all of our ducks in a row to get it in place before winter. However at every turn I'm dealing with some of the most incompetent people I've ever encountered, from the bank on. Only my excavator guy who's also doing the septic seems to really be doing a great job for us so far. Either way I hoped to have the house in place by now but right now I've got a clearing, and that's about it. Hoping the bank will come through this week with money so I can write a check to get the cement pad put down before the weather get's any worse and also get the septic in place. The well isn't as big of an issue since they are drilling so that can happen as needed but soon as well. So it's been busy on that front too;)

Yesterday I made the step to get a company to build my clips out of spring steel which should be a huge perk for all those of you with Texas holsters. These should replace my kydex clips which most of you know will fail over time, it's just the nature of the material. So these spring steel clips should be more durable and overall a better setup going forward. But it's a heck of a risk since I have to buy 1,000 of them and it's a pretty good chunk of change to gamble. That said I think the end result will be great so we'll see in 3 weeks when I take delivery of the clips but I'm crossing my fingers that they work out for us;)

Eli is doing great, he's just about 20lbs. now and just turned 5 months 3 days ago, so he's doing great as is Sarah. I'm doing well just running around like a fool here trying to get holsters done and getting interrupted by going out to the job site for inspections and helping cut stumps off for the excavator with the chainsaw(which for those who mentioned it last year, I now am running chaps and a helmet when cutting). I'm hoping this winter to get a little more time online to get some more pictures out on forums etc, and also get the lead times down a bit.

Hope things are going well for everyone else as well;)

Update again, finally got a few minutes to calculate my lead time again and I'm going to drop it down to 14-16 weeks which should be pretty accurate. I actually just rebuilt the tension system from mechanical to pneumatic yesterday which has helped a ton on how my sewing machine is working(it's been acting up allot lately). So that should help a bunch in allowing me more time building gear rather than fixing equipment as well;)

Also as a few of you know I've got some new designs on the horizon that will be pretty sweet and they should be out shortly:)

Take care!

I am willing to buy a set of the new clips, so that will 'help' with the initial cost.

Well as soon as I've got them in hand and they are up to my standards you can buy as many as you'd like;) It's not a big deal cost wise pending they work out, it's just a big gamble if they don't for some reason:) That said if they work they will save me a bunch of time and money compared to building the kydex clips I'm doing now, so that's what I'm really hoping it may even have an appreciable effect on my lead time overall too. I'm hoping this is one of those turning points in helping me put out some more holsters with even better belt attachments;)

My latest order was placed yesterday - an OWB rig for my Kareem.  Hopefully by the time Luke works through his backlog, I will have gotten the sights changed, and the pistol tested for reliability.

I am still trying to figure out my next one.
I fear it will take phone time yet again.
Then again, Luke's calls are always welcome.

Well guys another update, metal clips came in well twice but I'll explain that in a minute;) Here is a picture of them installed on a rig:

So they are basically the same design as my kydex clips but out of good strong spring steel. Plenty thick to handle belts up to 1/3in. thick without any issues, and super freaking secure. Those of you running my kydex clips know how much pride I take in knowing they really do hold the holster on the belt well. These new ones are even better. They also work even better reversed like a few of you do for OWB carry since they are allot stronger than the kydex ones and should take the abuse just fine. Also the overall profile is thinner since the material is just so much thinner than the thick kydex I've been using.

So overall they are great, and I've already setup the site to default to them because they are an improvement in all area's but one. They are harder on belts, the material isn't nearly as soft as kydex so it does wear belts more, not a whole lot I can do about that. I clean up some sharp edges to help keep it to a minimum but they are metal and there isn't much I can do about that.

What I mentioned about twice is you'll notice it's been more than the couple weeks it should have been. Well I got my first shipment several weeks ago, but they were wrong. New guy was running the equipment or just didn't read my drawing properly before building them. Either way they were too short to fit over even a 1.25in. belt let along a 1.5in. belt. So I called them expecting a headache since here I've got a box of 1000 clips that won't work for anything. They understood it was their issue, said they would rebuild to my specs and drawing properly. Then they said just scrap the other clips not worth shipping them back since they are heavy. So good on them for doing the right thing, they now have my business from here out. The bad thing for them is the guy running the shop liked my design so much he made another 1000 up just for sale because he figured they would go quickly, and they were made before they realized they screwed up the design:) So they ended up eating 2000 clips made to an unworkable spec.

Either way the company stood behind it's word and did right by me and I appreciate that. And they made one heck of a nice clip in the ones I got from them so I'm happy and I'm sure you guys will be as well;)

Also today our house was delivered, I spent most of the day out there making sure everything was done right, and tomorrow we've got to cap the roof before the snow comes, and I've got to install a new chimney for my wood stove then I can get back to holsters for the rest of the weekend;)

Take care!

Luke

Sounds great.   I may have to get some of the steel clips but I do love the other set of loops you made.

Not much anymore but one of these days I'm going to get some rest;) Installed the chimney and wood stove in our new house yesterday so we've got heat at least. No power or water but I've got heat;)

Merry Christmas to you too. Sarah thought I was nuts trying to get the house in before Christmas since we only poured cement 2 weeks ago but I was determined. Today I'll string some extension cords and some power line and go get my Christmas tree. It's been 5 years since we gave had our own normal house and tree and I've gotta admit I'm ready ;)

Take care!
