Those wacky Germans...
« on: November 23, 2012, 08:41:52 PM »
sounds like someone forgot to learn from their history!   :-\

http://www.dw.de/national-german-gun-registry-on-target-for-launch/a-16390894

Quote
The German interior minister has said a countrywide database of all legal gun owners is set for launch on January 1. Hans-Peter Friedrich predicted a "considerable increase in security" as a result.

Maybe, next time around they'll not try to have the government have all the guns?

When has a gun registry ever made a society safer? :shocked

History books might be informative, or for lighter reading and a little more current, maybe a Canadian newspaper would be interesting.

Don't the Germans kinda sweep the Third Reich under the rug? History doesn't seem to be their strong suit, at least between 1939 and 1945 ish.

Based on knowing several Germans pretty well (two with PhDs and one with a Masters degree), they know it happened but all they know about it is the Allied brain-washing version of it*.  They don't think things went bad because their government got taken over by criminal thugs and crushed dissent, they think the 3rd Reich came about because Germans were too much like those selfish greedy Americans.  Whatever that means, they believe it no matter how nonsensical it is.  I threw in their educational status just to show this kind of lunacy isn't a matter of being uneducated, I think it's a matter of brainwashing from early age so that "of course the government is supposed to control every part of our lives" is just part of everyone's background.

* By Allied brain-washing version, I mean the poisoned version the post-war victors, especially the French, worked into the German government so as to permanently keep the German mind sick, weak, and self-despising and avoiding growing up, lest the Germans ever shake it off grow strong and re-conquer the French.

Here's a crazy idea...how about this time we just get started early and crush them BEFORE they get strong, instead of letting them build up to full strength and spend five or six years wrecking the place because they are strong enough to do that but not actually get anywhere.

It would not surprise me at all to see Germany start another major European war, it's just in their nature.

If we are going to preempt a war they haven't started yet, why don't we just shuffle some borders in Europe, wreck the place and rebuild it, now.

Considering their new role as Europe's banker, they're probably just going to rule the continent through financial means rather than by force.

I'm just pointing out when they start rearming and start making noise, take care of it before it gets to full blown war instead of standing idly by like ostriches with heads stuck in the sand.

What's the old saying, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me?" They've got a long history of warfare (if you lived next to France you'd invade them too). I think it's inevitable till something happens.

Why start a war when you own the whole continent anyways?  They'd just be destroying their own property.

The way the RIFs are popping out babies in Europe, won't be long until the demographics change.  Need someone with balls to counter that problem should it arise.  I think Germany may be useful in that way...

I had a German teacher in college, who is from germany. One time someone used the word Nazi, in a benign context, and our teacher got really nervous and kind of offended. It's like they feel so ashamed about it, that it isn't brought up? Or it's only brought up from the racial angle.

At the same time, they really do think that the german way of doing things is the superior way.

It's strange that they don't see the duality in that way of thinking.
