well, let's suppose that Trump makes a really good choice for the Supreme Court, like a Scalia clone. Ted Cruz comes to mind because he had a massive amount of influence in the Heller decision.

    http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2016/02/how_scalia_and_ted_cruz_saved_the_2nd_amendment.html

Senator Mike Lee of Utah would also make a great choice but he pretty much removed himself for consideration by making a big deal of not supporting Trump.

So, anyways,  that happens and suddenly CalGuns gets one of their lawsuits accepted by SCOTUS and suddenly Heller and McDonald
are applied to California tyranny law and poof! California Second Amendment supporters suddenly (and finally) have the US Constitution influence their right to self defense. Because only SCOTUS can overturn the 9th's rulings, California socialist politicians have been running unchecked for decades.

It hasn't happened until now because the pansys in SCOTUS haven't allowed any 9th US Court of Appeals (covers California among others) cases concerning firearms to be granted cert (certiorari) and the 9th routinely tramples all over rights guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment.

Trump already put out a list, and he *promised* to only nominate from that list.  Yeah right... ::)

But yes, if he gives us something sweet with the Scalia replacement, I am going to be praying for the quick demise of Ginsburg, Stevens, and even Kennedy.  Having a court stacked up to 7-2 in our favor would allow the GOP a few years to get their heads on straight and diversify their base, without having to worry about having a majority for a few years.

So, what do you think the chances are that Obama's last executive order will be to remove President's Day from the list of federal holidays now that Mr. Trump has been elected?   Or will his own narcissism prevent it?    :hmm

Works for me.  It might be worth it just for the entertainment value of watching legions bureaucrats and other "public servants"  :facepalm  try to deal with the concept of having to actually be present and working on a day when other people are free to go about their business.   :cool

Never thought I'd see Matthews say anything like this before:

The problem is you can't get him to say it anywhere but within the "safe space" confines of a CNN studio at the eleventh hour of a political campaign that is clearly off the rails.   :coffee

That he admitted it at all shows that there is hope.

You and I both know that had he admitted it on Fox, that the words would have barely left his lips before he would have been verbally assaulted by the interviewer. I know that the likes of Sean Hannity would have been absolutely tumescent to give him a verbal dressing down of "I told you so's".

That being said, it still might've been fun to watch  :cool.

Not sure I agree with that.  Hannity is a rabid "conservative" by any measure but he will generally give either a listener, viewer or guest plenty of room to come around to the proper perspective.  I think the same can be said for most of the Fox headliners.  What you might not get is a total buy in of something completeley unexpected from someone of Matthews' pedigree but he would have certainly have been given room to expand and revise his initial remarks before said "dressing down" began.

Maybe you're correct. I used to listen to Sean Hannity and I certainly prefer him over Bill O'Reilly (I never could get into Bill O'Reilly). I know that there isn't much comparison between Sean Hannity and Chris Matthews. Both may be opinionated hosts (as they are expected to be!), but I can only bear a couple of minutes of Chris bullying someone before I start to lose my sanity. I think probably the least patient conservative that I can actually stand to listen to is Michael Savage, and even he isn't worse than Chris Matthews.

I think a lot of preconceive expectations have been tested this go-around.  We'd do ourselves a service to learn something from them and start acting accordingly.  That is to say... stereotyping everything doesn't heal the great divide, it widens it.  We should try and be better than that.

As it pertains to Chris Matthews, he might be an uber-liberal, but he's still just a man, as we all are.  Hubris is a flaw in not only him, but all of us.

Yes, we should.  So, food for thought folks-  From my reading over the last week, it looks like Hilllary won the popular vote by around 1 million, give or take.  In doing so however, it seems she only won 420 or so counties out of around 3100 nationwide.........  Country mouse and city mouse indeed.  Geographically, she got STOMPED.
This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty. . . . The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction- St. George Tucker, Blackstone's Commentaries

^^ And that's a good reason to have a little empathy.  More than half the voting country, as expressed in individual souls, did not want Donald Trump to be president.  Yet, he rightfully won anyway due to the circumstances of how the system was designed to work.  That's a recipe for being upset right there.  We'd be pissed off too had the situation been reversed, trust that.

And I don't mean we'd have the protests/riots we see going on now.  :eh  Those assclowns running around in the street no more represent the bulk of the left than the KKK represents the bulk of the right.  The majority of Americans are not either of those things.

A majority of voting Americans supported their candidate and lost in an extremely close and controversial election.  Trump supporters and/or the people who simply voted against Clinton should at least try not to be dickheads about it.  Doing so will only make things worse.

Frankly, the election wasn't that close as was pointed out by The Norseman.   I also fail to see anything "controversial" about it . All concerned knew the rules of the game going in - first one to get 270 electoral college votes wins.  If you win the popular vote but lose the electoral college vote you have experienced a statistical anomaly and also lost the election.  No surprise there on either side.  The individual states, the District of Colombia and the 1st congressional district of Maine award their respective electoral college votes based on the total vote count within each state or district and the majority of those popular vote contests was won by Mr. Trump.   Anyway you slice it he won the contest fair and square.  I suppose you have the right to complain about it but there was nothing undemocratic about the process, nothing unfair about it and nothing particularly controversial about it.

There's a lot of reaction and overreaction to the election now that the shoe is on the other foot but the those "afflicted" by the election of Mr. Trump and the retention of the Republican congressional majority would do well to get over themselves and get on with life.

The crew in the labs love to crunch some numbers given our chosen professions. We poured over what numbers we could get(not all ballots are in yet) and compared to last presidential elections.

Trump and Romney are set to get pretty close to the same total number of votes. Which are both more than McCain received. Trump pulled in a bit more of the black vote(duh with Obama running in the last two elections), and the woman vote over either McCain or Romney. He is on track to receive fewer white male votes than either McCain or Romney.

If we take overall numbers for total votes for Trump are close to Romney/McCain. Then the only variable left to account for him winning is the opposition.

So it would be fair to conclude Trump didn't so much win as Hillary solidly lost.

I think this may be why so many on the Hillary side are upset. Hillary was not beaten by a better candidate. She basically struck out with not a swing taken.
