Does anyone use Self Defense Insurance here?
« on: January 11, 2017, 02:01:56 pm »
I have USCCA...I compared several plans and it appeared to be the best to me (even with Arizona's law regarding civil suits).  I went with the Platinum plan.

I've been meaning to, but hell, I'm so poor I carry an empty gun  :neener.

Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.
Capacity wasn't really an issue then... and honestly really it's not even an issue now.
Ray Chapman, used to say that the 125-grain Magnum load’s almost magical stopping power was the only reason to load .357 instead of .38 Special +P ammunition into a fighting revolver chambered for the Magnum round. I agree. - Massad Ayoob

Paradoxically it is those who strive for self-reliance, who remain vigilant and ready to help others.

I've considered it but haven't looked into it too seriously.  I have my liability insurance and I know that doesn't cover court costs.  I'd always wondered how many of the policies have had to pay out or provide services.  Being insurance, it's a nice to have.  If it's a clear cuts self-defense case, the financial impact may be minimal, maybe $5000.  I think most of these plans are like $300-$500 per year.  You can save up that $5000 over a number of years.

I'd love to hear of any one else's experiences as well.

A lot of "maybes" in these situations.  It's hard to say, really.  I think it all comes down to, "It depends".  It depends on the circumstances, the State laws involved, what you said at time of arrest, what witnesses (if any) testify to, and so on.  Despite a case being "clear cut", complications can still arise (especially the other side's legal team).

If you go by some of Massad Ayoob's work, he's been involved in cases that ran into the six figures.  Other cases both he and the lawyer involved worked for free out of principle.

In this article, he describes the complexity of cases.

In this video, he describes how things can get costly.

All I can say for sure is, a legal defense would break me (financially).

I'd rather spend the cost of 2 boxes of ammo a month to (1) keep a lawyer on their retainer program with drastically reduced legal costs should I need them in general, and (2) have insurance in the event of a self defense shooting.

I'm big on insurance.  Because of the low cost, I raised my Liability coverage on my car to $500,000 / $500,000 knowing that this money would cover injury to others and my legal defense costs.  On my old jalopy, that amounts to $75 a month total car insurance bill (I don't have Collision for my 2004, just Comprehensive).

I also do Marc Victor's  "Attorney On Retainer" https://attorneyforfreedom.com/attorney-on-retainer-cost

    plus the USCCA Platinum.

    Peace of mind.

So I'm not as cool as you guys, and my Wish List is longer :)  It's nice to enjoy what you have and to have something to want, even if you won't get it for a while.  Brush Gun!

its pretty inexpensive at 135 for the first year and 80 for subsequent years
IllinoisThere’s a story about a turtle and a scorpion. Scorpion is stranded on a river bank. Turtle sees this and asks Scorpion to get on his back and he’ll take him across the river. Scorpion gets on Turtle’s back and they go into the river. When they’re about halfway across, Scorpion stings Turtle. As Turtle is sinking, knowing they’re both going to die, he asks Scorpion "Why did you sting me, we’re both going to die?" and Scorpion says "It’s not my fault; it’s what I am."

    Gratz!

Here in Arizona, with our Mandatory Minimum sentences if a case involving a firearm goes to trial (most don't...they take a deal instead), I want to have good representation to protect sick old me from the System.  I study and learn what I need to, in order to avoid being in the wrong (as much as possible) so that my representation will be in a position to protect me.

USCCA offers a pretty good refund policy.

And they're always giving away guns with their safety video streams and drawings.

I have Armed Citizen Legal Defense Network and have for a few years.  I recently added Silver level coverage with US Concealed Carry Association.  Is that enough?  I honestly do not know.  However, I am the primary support for my family so less than $300/year for an edge that can keep me out of prison is a good investment.
CaliforniaOf course I carry a gun!  It gives me a chance against the sinners and protection from the righteous.
